Directions: The Chiang Dao Caves are located 72 km north of Chiang Mai city along the way to Fang and Tha Ton and 5km west of route 107.There are buses six times daily from Chiang Mai to Tha Ton, which stop at Chiang Dao along the way. 90 minutes, 40 baht.

The cave complex is thought to extend for 10-14 km into Doi Chiang Dao Mountain and from the summit of Doi Chiang there are magnificent views. In fact the whole surrounding area is largely unspoiled and quite scenic.

The two main caves that are easily explored on one's own are Tham Phra Nawn and Tham Seua Dao, as they are electrically illuminated. Both these caves contain many religious statuary and sacred Buddha images.

In order to explore Tham Maa, Tham Kaew or Tham Naam caves visitors must bring or hire their own lights and lanterns as these caves have no electric lightning.

Chiang Mai Zoo was established by the The Zoological Park Organization, Thailand in 1974. Situated on 531 Rai of verdant forest land at the foothill of Doi Suthep mountain, the zoo is surrounded by hilly terrain which is home to thousands of species of wild plants and flowers adorning the natural landscape of valleys, streams and waterfalls.

Chiang Mai Zoo is the first and only zoo in Northern Thailand where visitors can experience the excitement and intimacy of various species of animals in their natural habitat.

To experience and feel the atmosphere of a typical northern farm, one may take a day trip to this camp. Only a 30-minute drive from Chiang Mai, it can be accessed by local taxis. Organized shows give you an overview of the ancient farming techniques, including water wheel irrigation, plowing and sugar processing. The farm area also houses an exotic folk museum and a farmhouse built in the traditional way.

Mae Rim Monkey School

Directions: Located only 20 kilometers north of Chiang Mai, on route 1069 in the Mae Sa Valley. Take the Chiang Mai-Faang Road (route 107) out of the city, until you reach its intersection with the Mae Rim-Samoeng Road (route 1096). Turn left here and drive for about 5 kilometers, past the snake farm and the patrol station until you reach a sign (in Thai) for the Monkey School, on your right.

Admission Fee: Adult: 200 Thb.; Children: 100 Thb. You can also buy a bag of fruit with which to feed the monkeys for 20 baht per bag
